Te Amo, El Faro

This is a love story. A true love story between me and my taco salad.

I believe that as long as El Faro is still around, nothing can be that bad. The eternal battle between good and evil will rage on, but as long as we have El Faro and its three locations throughout the City, evil will never truly win.

The battle of the bulge, however, is a different story. That's why my coworker, Jessica, and I have made a pact to visit El Faro only once a month. Any more than that, and things could get ugly. We visited our mistress early in the month of June, but half-way through the month, I felt a craving. I started day-dreaming of pork burritos, chips and salsa, and the delicious taco salad that comes in a flour tortilla bowl. How brilliant to make the bowl a part of the meal and also the container in which the meal is served!

Jessica was gone when noon rolled around. "She must have taken an early lunch," our boss, Lois offered. That's when I snapped. I rushed down Kearny Street, pushing my way through the lunch crowds, not even enjoying the rare sunshiny day in San Francisco. "Chicken taco salad, no cheese, no sour cream, mild salsa, guacamole, and refried beans!" The deed had been done. I took my taco salad to St. Mary's Park and savored every bite. It was truly an affair to remember.

I came back to work as full of Mexican goodness as can be. Until, like a wife who spots lipstick on her husband's collar, Jessica spotted the stain on my shirt. Yes - it was the stain of love and passion that had dripped from the chicken in my taco salad. Luckily, I had an extra top with me, as I have all my internet purchases shipped to my work address. But clean shirt or not, the damage was done. That is, until I SPOTTED A BURRITO ON HER DESK!

nerd crushes!

my new favorite book: geeky dreamboats: a celebration. i think i've always had a thing for geeks - one of my first boyfriends in high school was a painfully shy, super dork with a jew fro and glasses. to this day, i'm always falling for the nerd over the bro, and i think geeks are making a comeback in a major way. watch out all you stripey shirt wearing frat boys hanging out in the marina. it's time for some calculus-loving, ivy-league-educated, sci-fi-comicon-attending, allergic-to-everything-especially-peanuts trekkie love! among my favorite profiles in this book are: michael cera  - "he's made many a woman in her twenties (and dare we say thirties?) blush with girlish delight - paul rudd, jemaine clement & bret mckenzie (flight of the conchords), mos def, jon stewart, stephen colbert, simon "shaun of the dead" pegg, jason schwartzman, demetri martin (fan of palindromes and able to write simultaneously with both hands), topher "70's geek" grace, barack obama, justin "mac guy" long, the original geek dreamboat, john cusack, and my personal favorite - public radio geek, ira glass who became a vegetarian when he realized chickens had distinct, individual personalities (swoon!). let your inner geek out and enjoy some super geek hotness with this celebration of geekdom. and for once, let's give the nerdy nice guy a chance.

The Soundtrack of My Life...

Everytime I see the Bacardi Mojito commercial I think: Man a mojito would be nice right now. Then, I think: I really like that song, I wonder what it is?

Thank you Ask.com (our sponsor for this post) for giving me the answer I needed. The song is "Daylight" by Matt and Kim. I think this drum and keys combo would be heavily featured on the soundtrack of my life.

Not My Chair, Not My Problem!

This is the funniest thing I've seen... maybe ever. Apparently, this guy dropped acid, then sat in a closet talking to himself. His friend recorded everything he said, then made this animated lizard video.

No way! No way!

F*ckin delish, man!

You gotta love indie flim (or in this case, since it's Irish, indie fil-im). I just re-watched Intermission, a film featuring several story-lines that all intersect at various points, starring, em,
basically every living Irish actor.

After watching, I am definitely feeling a craving for some
brown sauce in me tea!

Add it to the list, ladies! All things Irish!

Coachella Music and Arts Festival 2009

I love going to concerts and seeing live music, and this past weekend I drove out to Indio, CA, aka the middle of nowhere, for an unbeatable festival experience. I am getting chills just thinking about the amazing acts that I got to see live and to top it off, the venue was surprisingly quaint. I was only about 30 feet away from Airborne Toxic Event and the Ting Tings and a couple hundred away from Sir Paul McCartney (the reason I have always loved the bassist more than the lead guitarist), who is, let's face it, a legend!

Sadly I was only able to make it for Friday, but next year I am vowing to attend the entire thing, and definitely NOT drive home that same night, or should I say morning. . . we left Thousand Oaks for Coachella (180 ish miles away) at 10 am on Friday and got back at 6 am on Saturday, pretty intense, but DEFINITELY worth the exhaustion I am still feeling.

Here are some choice vids from the festival . . .

Paul McCartney

This song is one of my all time favorite Beatles tunes, simply amazing. I didn't know what to expect because I haven't been totally up on all Paul's new stuff, but the man ROCKS even in his 60's!

The Airborne Toxic Event

The violinist and lead singer were adorable, this band was so appreciative to be at the festival and it was fun see how much they enjoyed performing, definitely a highlight of my day.

The Ting Tings

This was really cool to watch also, we got super close to the stage. I love the singer's outfit and accent, she was great fun. She knocked over the drum during the last song and got on top of it to finish singing, classic rock star move!

The only downside was that with the number of awesome acts and the time we had to run from stage to stage it's just not possible to see them all. A little disappointing, but what we did see was freaking amazing!

Coachella 2010 here I come!
